Achieved a high implementation rate of 73.6% among 87 pledged projects... Gained strong support through life-oriented policy promotion... 추진 of Jangseungbaegi Comprehensive Administrative Town, expansion of public daycare centers, and increased supply of Dongjak-gu style rental housing
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) received the highest grade (SA) for two consecutive years in the ‘2021 National Basic Local Government Heads Pledge Fulfillment and Information Disclosure Evaluation’ hosted by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters.
This evaluation was conducted from March to April by a manifesto evaluation team composed of experts, targeting heads of basic local governments nationwide. It assessed five areas: ▲pledge fulfillment completion ▲2020 goal achievement ▲resident communication ▲web communication ▲pledge consistency. The results were classified into five grades from SA to D.
The district received balanced scores across all areas and achieved the highest grade, SA.
Dongjak-gu set its direction for the 7th elected term around five policy goals: ▲Seoul’s new cultural (tourism) commercial hub city ▲creative experience-centered education innovation city ▲comprehensive welfare city by life cycle ▲balanced development city by living area ▲a village safety city created together with residents. Among 87 pledged projects, a total of 64 projects were completed, achieving a high fulfillment rate of 73.6%.
In particular, lifestyle-oriented policies such as the establishment of the Kim Young-sam Library in Sangdo-dong last year, expansion of the daycare center in Sindaebang 1-dong, construction of a multipurpose open senior center in Sangdo 1-dong, and expansion of free shuttle bus services for transportation-vulnerable groups including the disabled, elderly, and pregnant women received great responses from residents.
Additionally, the district has been creating a vocational education industry cluster through the nation’s first designation of a vocational education special zone in 2019 and the opening of the Noryangjin Youth Job Center. It is also working on projects to attract high schools in Heukseok-dong to alleviate concerns of students and parents about school admission and relocation, strengthen the public childcare foundation, and meet the public childcare demand by opening a total of 27 national and public daycare centers by next year, aiming to make Dongjak a good place for everyone to live.
Furthermore, projects such as the Jangseungbaegi Comprehensive Administrative Town and Yongyang Bongjeo Jeong area tourism attraction project, which reorganizes Dongjak’s future urban structure, the Sadang 4-dong urban regeneration project investing a total of 26 billion KRW to expand basic living infrastructure and improve residential environment, and the expansion of Dongjak-gu type rental housing supply to resolve housing difficulties for youth, newlyweds, elderly living alone, and small households have been promoted.
Meanwhile, in September last year, the district won the grand prize in the job creation and employment improvement category among the pledges of the 7th elected term at the ‘National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition.’
Under the theme ‘My Job Base Camp for Youth, Dongjak-gu,’ the cases of ▲Dongjak Vocational Education Special Zone ▲Noryangjin Youth Job Center ▲Dongjak-gu Youth Startup Support Center were introduced, recognizing the excellence of the pledges.
Mayor Changwoo Lee of Dongjak-gu said, “The good results are the outcome of efforts to lead district administration through communication with residents,” and added, “We will focus on proactive responses to prevent COVID-19 and present a concrete future blueprint of Dongjak-gu to residents, carrying out district administration that affects all aspects and places of residents’ lives.”
