[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] In a survey on the suitability of the next presidential candidate, Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung was found to be slightly ahead of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl within the margin of error.
According to a poll conducted by Win-G Korea Consulting on behalf of Asia Economy from March 29 to 30 targeting voters nationwide aged 18 and over, Governor Lee's support rate was 27.5%, while former Prosecutor General Yoon's was 27.3%.
Compared to a poll conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting on February 15-16 (targeting 1,019 voters nationwide aged 18 and over, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers via wireless ARS), Governor Lee's support increased by 0.4 percentage points with little change, but former Prosecutor General Yoon's support dropped by 3.2 percentage points, reversing their rankings.
Following them were former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon (10.2%), former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun (5.4%), independent lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo (4.5%), People's Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo (4.0%), and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min (2.9%).
Next were Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung at 2.8%, former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae at 2.3%, former Deputy Prime Minister Kim Dong-yeon at 1.7%, Jeju Province Governor Won Hee-ryong at 1.3%, and Justice Party lawmaker Shim Sang-jung at 1.2%.
Former Prosecutor General Yoon led among voters aged 60 and over and in the Yeongnam region, while Governor Lee showed strength among voters in their 30s and 40s, as well as in the Honam region and Gangwon and Jeju areas.
Among Democratic Party supporters, Governor Lee led with 54.7%, followed by former leader Lee Nak-yeon (19.3%) and former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun (8.8%).
Among People Power Party supporters, former Prosecutor General Yoon was most supported at 54.8%, followed by lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo (8.5%), Chairman Choi (5.5%), leader Ahn (3.6%), and former lawmaker Yoo (3.4%).
The overall response rate for this survey was 10.4% (1,045 respondents). The survey method was 100% mobile phone virtual numbers via wireless ARS, and the sample was extracted using weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The margin of error is ±3.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
