[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced on the 31st that it will strengthen improvements in livestock environment and inspection and management of appropriate livestock numbers at farms in preparation for the summer season when complaints about livestock odor increase.
The city plans to form an on-site inspection team for two months from June to July to intensively check compliance with livestock-related laws and regulations, including the provision of facilities and equipment, manure and odor management, and proper reporting under the livestock product traceability system.
In addition, to prevent overbreeding at livestock farms, the city will encourage proper management of livestock numbers by utilizing the automatic calculation program for appropriate breeding area on the livestock product traceability system website, and provide farms with a self-diagnosis checklist to enable inspection and management.
Furthermore, by comparing the permitted area for livestock farming and the number of livestock reported under the traceability system, the city will identify farms suspected of overbreeding and take strict measures such as imposing fines on violating farms.
Kim Sang-jin, head of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “In addition to penalties such as fines for violating livestock laws and regulations, farms face significant disadvantages such as exclusion from various policy projects,” and urged, “We hope farms take greater interest themselves and actively strive to comply with laws regarding livestock odor management and breeding density.”
