[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] A 30-year-old U.S. military serviceman stationed in South Korea was arrested by the police for assaulting three Korean men without reason while wandering around Itaewon, Seoul, in a drunken state.
According to the police on the 30th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul arrested a U.S. soldier, A (34), who was intoxicated and violently assaulted pedestrians in Itaewon-dong the previous day, on charges of assault and handed him over to the military police. A is known to be a sergeant assigned to the U.S. 8th Army Pyeongtaek Base.
It was confirmed that around 10 p.m. the previous day in Itaewon, A punched B, a man in his 20s walking on the street, in the face, then body-slammed C, a man in his 40s riding a motorcycle nearby, knocking him down and assaulting his face and other areas. Afterward, A walked for about five more minutes and reportedly punched another man in his 30s, C, who chased after him trying to catch him.
The police stated, "A has been booked on assault charges and is under investigation. He will be summoned for questioning according to procedures."
