'Seoul's Night, Seoul's Light' Theme
Applications Accepted on Website from July 1 to 31, 44 Works Selected → Total Prize Money of 25 Million KRW Awarded
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 30th that it will hold the '2021 Seoul Public Design Contest' under the theme 'Seoul's Night, Seoul's Light' to create a city where the night is beautiful.
The Seoul Public Design Contest, started in 2007 as a 'citizen participation public design' for 'Seoul created together with citizens,' selects a new theme every year and receives fresh and creative ideas from citizens, awarding outstanding works.
The contest is divided into a general division open to anyone aged 19 and over and a student division for middle and high school students, and it is held in two categories: 'Seoul's Night Tourism Content' and 'Public Design for Neighbors' Night.'
'Seoul's Night Tourism Content' targets public designs using light that allow people to enjoy Seoul's night, such as photo zones and playground equipment linked to 'Seoul Light.' 'Public Design for Neighbors' Night' targets public designs that can comfortably and safely protect neighbors from crimes and darkness occurring on roads such as walking paths, routes home, and roadside paths.
This contest will select a total of 44 works and award a total prize of 25 million KRW along with the Seoul Mayor's Award. Additionally, some of the winning works will be exhibited later in connection with Seoul Light (Seoul Light, DDP Public Light) held at DDP, and will be used in public design improvement projects throughout Seoul.
Yoo Yeon-sik, Head of the Seoul Cultural Headquarters, said, "I hope this contest will be an opportunity to provide citizens, exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, with enjoyable and safe nightscapes in their daily lives," and added, "We ask for much interest and participation in this contest so that citizens' fresh ideas can be showcased throughout Seoul again this year."
The contest is open to anyone without special qualification restrictions, divided into general and student divisions, and each participant can submit up to one entry (team submissions are not allowed). Applications can be submitted for one month from July 1 to 31 on the 'Seoul Excellent Public Design Certification System' website.
