International Recognition of Quality System and Testing Capability as a Construction Quality Testing Institution
On the 27th, the Busan Construction Safety Testing Office held a plaque ceremony for recognition as an internationally accredited testing institution.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Busan Construction Safety Testing Office has obtained 'Internationally Accredited Testing Laboratory' status.
Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) announced on the 28th that it was recognized by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS), the nation's highest authority for testing and inspection accreditation.
'Internationally Accredited Testing Laboratory' is a national system that certifies compliance with international standards for quality (management) systems and testing capabilities according to the Framework Act on National Standards.
The Construction Safety Testing Office was established in 1964 as a testing laboratory affiliated with the Busan Directly Governed City Road Office and has been responsible for quality testing of construction projects in Busan, contributing to the construction of public infrastructure.
With this international accreditation, the Construction Safety Testing Office is expected to secure international recognition and reliability of test results, and enhance its global status by being acknowledged for its expertise and technical skills as a quality testing institution for construction projects.
Test reports issued by the Construction Safety Testing Office now hold equivalent validity in 102 accreditation bodies across 104 countries that are members of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).
Moreover, by performing top-tier global quality testing in the southern region, it will actively address trade technical barriers when domestic construction companies expand overseas. It is expected to reflect broad demand not only from domestic companies but also from those entering foreign markets.
In response to the increasing importance of quality management for public facilities due to sudden safety accidents such as road subsidence caused by rapid climate change, Busan City has fully revised the 'Ordinance on Quality Management of Construction Projects in Busan' (promulgated at the end of May) to strengthen quality management from the construction start phase through completion and maintenance.
Kim Jong-kyung, Director of the Busan City Urban Planning Office, said, “The quality testing capability of Busan City's construction projects has been internationally verified,” adding, “We will focus on building safe, high-quality public facilities through professional and comprehensive construction quality management to achieve a ‘Green Smart City Busan.’”
