[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Members of the People’s Party have submitted a petition to the National Assembly in the form of a member introduction, demanding the inclusion of the GTX-D Gimpo-Hanam direct line and the extension plan of Line 5 (Gimpo Hangang Line) in the 4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan.
On the 26th, People’s Party lawmaker Lee Tae-gyu, floor leader Kwon Eun-hee, and lawmaker Choi Yeon-sook submitted the petition from the Gimpo Geomdan Transportation Citizens’ Coalition to the National Assembly Secretariat through the petition introduction, stating, "We must listen to the suffering of citizens in the second phase new towns of Gimpo and Geomdan, which lack transportation measures."
They pointed out, "More than 80% of residents commute to Seoul, but not only Olympic-daero but also the two-car Gimpo Gold Line, with a congestion rate of 285%, is truly a hellish train," adding, "With plans for a population of 760,000 in Gimpo and 330,000 in Geomdan New Town by 2035, if transportation issues are not resolved quickly, the situation will worsen."
Members of the People’s Party stated, "Only the original GTX-D line plan (Gimpo to Hanam) and the extension of Line 5 (Gimpo Hangang Line) will contribute to balanced development in the metropolitan area," and emphasized, "We strongly agree with the petition that the original GTX-D line plan (Gimpo to Hanam) and the extension of Line 5 (Gimpo Hangang Line) must be included in the 4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan to be finalized at the end of June."
