The Only Private Member and Elected Vice Chairperson of the UNESCO Korea Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Kim Eun-mi, President of Ewha Womans University, has been elected as the Vice Chairperson of the UNESCO Korea Committee. She is the only civilian member and an elected Vice Chairperson of the UNESCO Korea Committee.
President Kim Eun-mi was elected as Vice Chairperson at the 8th Extraordinary General Meeting of the UNESCO Korea Committee held online on the 20th. The UNESCO Korea Committee was founded in 1954, and currently, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye serves as the Chairperson. Ex officio Vice Chairpersons include the Vice Ministers of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, while President Kim is the only civilian member and elected Vice Chairperson. President Kim will contribute to UNESCO activities promoting international cooperation in education, science, culture, and information communication fields.
President Kim said, "As the COVID-19 pandemic has widened educational disparities worldwide, I believe UNESCO's role and significance are more important than ever. In the education sector, where Korea's role is essential in the international community, I hope to reflect on and take action for the shared future of young people and children, including Ewha students."
