[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] The idle land of Pusan National University Yangsan Campus, which was surrounded by iron fences creating a sense of discord in the middle of Mulgeum New Town, Yangsan City, Gyeongnam, has been newly renovated into an 'urban healing space.'
According to the city on the 25th, through the 'Yangsan Citizens' Health Forest' project jointly promoted by Yangsan City, Pusan National University, and the Yangsan Saemaeul Association since 2019, Metasequoia and Ipop trees were planted along a 3,870m perimeter at the edge of the idle land.
Additionally, 200,000 plants including Shasta daisies and Coreopsis were planted on a 7,000㎡ slope area of the idle land.
As a result, over the past two years, the trees have taken root and the flowers have fully bloomed, harmonizing to provide citizens with new sights to enjoy.
Mayor Kim Il-kwon said, “Thanks to the cooperation and support of Pusan National University, we were able to create a valuable resting place in the heart of the city where citizens can enjoy themselves. We will continue to focus administrative efforts on activating the remaining idle land as soon as possible through close communication.”
