Until the 31st, 'Jang(mi)han(songi) Festival' held in Mug2-dong Jangmi Village... The first village festival directly planned by the Urban Regeneration Support Center and residents... Rose Cafe, Flower Pattern Clothing Campaign, and various experience programs operated
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is holding the Jang(han) Festival as the Muk 2-dong Village Festival until the 31st, coinciding with the ‘2021 Seoul Rose Festival’ in Jangmi Village, Muk 2-dong, where the urban regeneration revitalization project is actively underway.
Muk 2-dong, where the festival is taking place, is the center of the Seoul Rose Festival and has been transforming into a ‘regeneration village dyed with roses’ since 2018 after being selected as an urban regeneration revitalization project site in 2017.
The Janghan Festival is the first village festival directly planned and created by the Urban Regeneration Support Center, residents, and the village festival planning group, making use of the characteristic of this Rose Village.
This festival is centered around the Rose Flower Light Street (Dongil-ro 163-gil, 380m), scheduled to be completed in May next year, to revitalize the depressed local economy and provide cultural enjoyment for residents.
The Rose Flower Light Street is expected to become a representative cultural street where the local commercial district and resident activities harmonize.
Looking closely at the festival programs, first, to raise the festival atmosphere, a ‘Floral Pattern Clothing Campaign’ is held where residents voluntarily wear floral-patterned clothes throughout the village, along with operating a ‘Rose Cafe’ at a photo zone full of blooming roses where visitors can take memorable photos.
Family-oriented experience programs are also operated. These include ‘Growing Roses for a Month,’ where families grow roses at home and enjoy them together, and an idea contest for the 2021 autumn village festival. On the 23rd, a ‘Stamp Tour,’ where participants experience nostalgic games around the village, and a ‘Rose Capsule Treasure Hunt,’ where participants complete given missions to learn about the village’s culture and history, were held, receiving enthusiastic responses from many residents.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “It is meaningful to hold a village festival hosted by residents along with the Rose Festival in Muk 2-dong, the first regeneration area in Jungnang-gu,” and added, “I hope this becomes an opportunity for everyone to support each other during these difficult times due to COVID-19.”
The Muk 2-dong urban regeneration revitalization project was selected as a New Deal project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2018 and plans to promote a total of 51 urban regeneration projects by 2022. It is expected to provide residents with a pleasant environment by creating resident shared-use facilities such as the village management office, family library, youth culture development center, as well as pedestrian-friendly streets and Songgye-won Rose Alley Garden to improve the living environment.
