[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The Seoul Jungbu Police Station announced on the 24th that, in collaboration with Jung-gu Office and Seoul Metro, it has designated areas for intensive crackdowns on illegal filming based on an analysis of crime statistics involving camera usage. From this month until August, advertisements will be posted on the stairs of nearby subway transfer stations, and a sexual crime 'SSAK3 Team' will be formed to carry out education and promotional activities.

According to the Jungbu Police Station, camera-related filming crimes account for 22.8% of all sexual crimes, with 64% occurring in subway stations and waiting rooms. Within the Jungbu jurisdiction, there are many subway lines (5 lines, 9 stations) with high foot traffic, resulting in a high incidence of illegal filming crimes. In particular, Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, Chungmuro Station, and Euljiro 3-ga Station were identified as the locations with the highest occurrences.

Accordingly, during the peak period for camera-related filming crimes from May to August, the Jungbu Police Station plans to post stair wrapping advertisements in the transfer sections of the three designated subway stations (Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, Chungmuro Station, Euljiro 3-ga Station) based on crime statistics analysis and geographic profiling systems. Stair wrapping advertisements involve attaching stickers to each stair step so that from a distance they appear as a single image.

Additionally, the Jungbu Police Station will form the ‘SSAK3 Team’ for sexual crime education and promotion, composed of school police officers, abuse prevention officers, and sexual violence officers from the Women and Youth Division. They will conduct effective education and promotional activities tailored by task and theme. The SSAK3 Team will classify education targets based on sexual violence crime data analysis and carry out proactive and specialized promotion and education to raise awareness of sexual crimes and implement preemptive crime prevention..

Ryu Mijin, Chief of the Jungbu Police Station, stated, "While post-incident punishment and management of sexual crimes are important, it is equally crucial to prevent sexual violence and harassment through continuous and repetitive education and promotional activities to raise awareness and prevent crimes." She added, "We will conduct comprehensive and proactive education and promotional activities targeting large corporations, market merchant associations, public institutions, hotels, and printing shops within the Jungbu jurisdiction to significantly reduce sexual violence crimes."
