May 17 - June 18 at Geumcheon-gu Village Community Archive... Introduction to Majenma Activities, Gender Equality Design Award Winners, and Policy Improvement Cases Presented
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseonghun) announced that the nonprofit organization Majenma, selected for the 2021 Gender Equality Fund support project, will hold a small exhibition to promote a culture of gender equality.
Majenma (Majenma: Facing Gender in the Village) started in 2013 as a book club and is a nonprofit private organization where women engaged in various activities in the village unite to focus solely on ‘me’ rather than someone’s mother, wife, or daughter, grow together, and work for practical gender equality.
This exhibition will be held in cooperation with the Geumcheon-gu Village Community Support Center from May 17 to June 18 at the Geumcheon-gu Village Community Archive.
Under the slogan "Our Small Actions Brightening Tomorrow," it is composed of five sections: ‘Empathize,’ ‘Join Together,’ ‘Watch Together,’ ‘Amazing,’ and ‘Curious.’
Specific exhibition contents include ‘Introduction to the Majenma Community and Activities,’ ‘Award-winning Gender Equality Designs from the Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion,’ ‘Gender Equality in Mass Media,’ and ‘Policy Improvement Cases through Gender Impact Assessment.’
Additionally, the exhibition will feature ‘Seesaw,’ which encourages reflection on experiences of inequality and discrimination, and ‘Clitoris,’ which provides knowledge about the female body.
The exhibition is open to all residents interested in gender equality.
As an opening event, on the 21st at 6:30 PM, a documentary screening of ‘I Am Venus’ will be held at the Geumcheon-gu Village Community Support Center’s Gyeongcheong Maru, followed by a discussion session.
Participation is limited to 15 people and is on a first-come, first-served basis through prior registration.
Park Eon-gyeong, CEO of Majenma, said, “Through this exhibition, I hope we can carefully examine the stereotypes and roles created in our lives and have a time to awaken the ‘me.’”
Meanwhile, in March, the district selected three organizations, including Majenma, through the Gender Equality Fund support project and provided a total of 55 million KRW to the three projects.
Yuseonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “I hope many residents participate in this exhibition prepared to spread social interest and empathy for gender equality and that it becomes an opportunity to think about healthy gender equality in daily life.”
For more details, inquiries can be made to Majenma.
