[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] Lee Young, a member of the People Power Party, officially announced his candidacy for the Supreme Council member.
On the 20th, Lee held a press conference at the National Assembly to declare his candidacy for the Supreme Council member in the party convention.
Having studied cryptography at KAIST, Lee emphasized his strength as a 'science and engineering expert.' He stated, "Among the 101 People Power Party lawmakers, I am the only ICT venture entrepreneur, and in Yeouido surrounded by liberal arts graduates, I am advocating for digital, data, and science and technology innovation."
Lee claimed he would achieve political innovation through digital means. He explained, "As the chairman of the People Power Party's Digital Party Committee, I established a system where all lawmakers communicate and share via mobile through an online collaboration platform. I will develop a digital communication system that enables real-time communication with all party members and gathers our connections into a massive collective intelligence to secure victory in the presidential election."
He also plans to institutionalize the nomination management committee to create a digital nomination system free from personal interests and power interference. Party affairs will be transparently datafied and systematized, and various new media promotion methods and digital communication platforms will be established.
Lee emphasized regime change through data. He said, "Using big data, I will analyze voters' thoughts, tendencies, behavior patterns, movements, and policy effects to derive the fastest and most efficient region- and generation-specific customized policies, creating a smart People Power Party based on data. By linking data centers with each city and provincial party, we will identify local issues and customized policy alternatives and share winning pledges for all elections in real time."
He also presented a plan to build a future think tank. Lee said, "We will datafy and platformize the resumes and careers of young talents so that customized talents can be utilized where needed most quickly. We will establish a think tank within the party to redesign the future of Korea in preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution era and the post-COVID-19 era, focusing on data economy strategies for a new economic powerhouse, digital currency, and cyber hegemony wars."
After the press conference, in a meeting with reporters, Lee emphasized, "The people of the Republic of Korea are shouting that politics must change. I believe that generation has arrived."
