[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 18th that from the 19th of this month until next month, it will hold Yangdong Market busking performances in front of the Yangdong Covered Shopping Mall Meeting Plaza (Taepyeonggyo) to revitalize the traditional market economy, which has been weakened due to COVID-19.
This performance is organized by the Yangdong Traditional Market Commercial District Management Organization, operated by Seo-gu after being selected for the 2019 Ministry of SMEs and Startups Commercial District Renaissance Contest Project.
Under the theme "Spring Love Singer Again," a total of nine performances will be held, featuring local cultural artists from various genres such as classical, gugak (traditional Korean music), mini orchestra, and jazz. The performances can also be viewed online via the Yangdong Traditional Market YouTube channel.
The Commercial District Management Organization had planned spring season busking performances since the beginning of the year, but due to the continued spread of COVID-19, the format was changed to both online and offline.
Staff will be assigned to strictly enforce social distancing and other daily quarantine guidelines during the events.
A Seo-gu official stated, "We hope that the busking performances will not only attract new customers to the market economy struggling due to COVID-19 but also provide citizens with opportunities to enjoy culture, thereby revitalizing the local economy."
