65 People Massively Caught at Entertainment Bars Operating Despite Gathering Ban

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Despite the ban on gatherings at entertainment facilities, the owner, employees, and customers of a nightlife pub operating illegally were caught in large numbers by the police.

According to the police on the 18th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul apprehended 65 people, including the owner, employees, and customers, at an underground nightlife pub in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, at around 2:46 a.m. on the same day for violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act. The police plan to report them to the local district office for violating quarantine rules so that they can face administrative penalties such as fines.

Responding to a 112 report stating "the door on the second basement floor is locked," the police arrived at the scene, opened the locked entrance, and confirmed signs of business operation, including tables with alcohol and side dishes and customers who appeared intoxicated.

Meanwhile, under social distancing level 2 currently in effect in the metropolitan area, the operation of six types of entertainment facilities?including nightlife pubs, danran pubs, emotional pubs, colatecs, hunting pochas, and holdem pubs?has been banned since the 12th of last month. This measure will continue until the 23rd.
