Hwasun-gun Supports Insurance Premiums for Crop Disaster Insurance and More

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 18th that it will support insurance premiums for crop disaster insurance, farmer safety insurance, and comprehensive agricultural machinery insurance to prepare for crop disasters and farmer safety accidents.

If you subscribe to crop disaster insurance, farmer safety insurance, and comprehensive agricultural machinery insurance, up to 80% of the insurance premium will be supported by national, provincial, and county funds (national 50%, provincial 10%, county 20%). The self-pay ratio is 20%.

The county additionally supports 10% of the 20% self-pay portion of crop disaster insurance and farmer safety insurance with county funds.

If an organic certified farm subscribes to crop disaster insurance, the entire 20% self-pay is supported by county funds, and organic certified farms can subscribe to crop disaster insurance with 100% support (national 50%, provincial 10%, county 40%) without any self-pay.

To expand organic certified farms and eco-friendly organic agricultural production, additional support is provided for insurance premiums of organic certified farms.

Crop disaster insurance compensates for crop damage caused by frequent natural disasters such as typhoons and cold damage, aiming to stabilize farmers' income and management.

The target crops for subscription are 67 types, with different subscription items and schedules depending on the region. Specific subscription periods can be confirmed at local agricultural cooperatives and then subscribed.

For rice, which has the highest subscription record, the subscription period has been earlier than last year, and this year's subscription period is from the 26th of last month to the 25th of next month.

Farmer safety insurance compensates for accidents occurring during farm work to protect farmers and farm workers, promote livelihood stability, and expand social safety nets. It is available to farmers aged 15 to 87 who are registered with an agricultural management entity.

Comprehensive agricultural machinery insurance covers damages caused by various agricultural machinery accidents during farm work.

Those who own or manage 12 types of target agricultural machinery, aged 19 or older, and agricultural corporations registered with an agricultural management entity can subscribe. The self-pay ratio for comprehensive agricultural machinery insurance is 20%.

Farmer safety insurance and comprehensive agricultural machinery insurance can be subscribed to year-round, and the subscription period is one year.

Last year's insurance premium support (national, provincial, county funds) amounted to a total of 4.247 billion KRW, including 3.46 billion KRW for crop disaster insurance premiums, 637 million KRW for farmer safety insurance, 146 million KRW for comprehensive agricultural machinery insurance, and 4 million KRW for organic farm crop disaster insurance premiums.

A county official said, “To minimize agricultural damage caused by climate change such as frequent heavy rains and typhoons, we are additionally supporting insurance premiums in the agricultural sector,” and added, “We ask all farmers to subscribe to insurance without omission so that they can farm safely and with peace of mind.”
