[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] LG Electronics, which will end its smartphone business in July, is expected to sell its flagship smartphone 'LG Velvet2 Pro (LG Rainbow),' originally scheduled to be released in the first half of this year, exclusively to employees.

According to industry sources on the 18th, famous IT tipster Tron reported that 3,000 units of the LG Rainbow will be sold exclusively to employees along with photos of the device.

According to Tron, the colors are three: Black, Beige, and Bronze. It uses the Snapdragon 888, supports a large 6.8-inch screen with FHD resolution, and offers 128GB memory and a 4000mAh battery.

The price is $176, approximately 200,000 KRW, and employees can purchase up to two units. A resale prohibition clause highlights its rarity. The after-sales service (A/S) warranty period is currently six months, and there are discussions to extend it to 24 months.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics officially announced its withdrawal from the mobile phone business in April due to continued losses. The official termination date is July 31, and the company plans to actively utilize smartphone-related technology patents in smart home appliances, IoT-based new products, connected cars, and other automotive electronics businesses. However, it is known that the mobile phone A/S policy will be maintained for more than two years for existing customers.
