Hyundai Construction Equipment Develops 'Construction Equipment AI Fault Diagnosis Technology' with Amazon Web Services

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Construction Equipment, a construction equipment subsidiary of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, announced on the 17th that it has succeeded in developing the country's first 'AI-based fault diagnosis technology' in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The technology developed by Hyundai Construction Equipment this time is equipped with an 'AIoT module' that combines AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things) in excavators. The core is to collect and analyze real-time equipment data and precisely detect abnormalities in the equipment through machine learning technology.

In particular, as data accumulates, the performance can improve by itself, and in the future, it will be possible to identify the types of equipment failures and recommend parts needed for repair based on the accumulated data. Through this, engineers can remotely assess the situation and take action on site.

Generally, construction equipment must endure heavy workloads for long hours, and it is difficult to detect equipment defects only with sensors and early warning signs, so unexpected failures are likely to occur. To overcome this, Hyundai Construction Equipment has been working with AWS since January last year to develop AI-based smart construction equipment.

Yoon Young-cheol, Head of R&D at Hyundai Construction Equipment, said, "By introducing AI technology developed with AWS into construction equipment, we will provide cutting-edge services that minimize the time required for diagnosis and repair and maximize equipment availability, thereby increasing customer satisfaction."

Ham Ki-ho, CEO of AWS Korea, said, "Based on AWS's machine learning technology and customer experience, we plan to continuously support Hyundai Construction Equipment's digital transformation."

Meanwhile, Hyundai Construction Equipment plans to continue collaborating with AWS to develop and commercialize voice recognition equipment control functions and further advance AI-based safety functions using the AIoT module.
