[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the afternoon of the 14th, President Moon Jae-in met with Avril Haines, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence (DNI), who is visiting Korea, and discussed the value of the Korea-U.S. alliance.
The Blue House stated that on this day, President Moon and Director Haines exchanged broad and in-depth opinions on current issues between Korea and the U.S. as well as the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
President Moon said, "Haines is the first female U.S. Director of National Intelligence and was the first to be confirmed by the Senate after the Biden administration took office," offering his congratulations. Director Haines responded, "I respect the path President Moon has walked for human rights and peace."
President Moon expressed hope, saying, "I hope that during Director Haines' tenure, the intelligence cooperation between the two countries will further develop and the Korea-U.S. alliance will become stronger." Director Haines said, "The Korea-U.S. alliance holds value beyond a security alliance."
President Moon agreed, stating, "The two countries share universal values such as democracy, human rights, and peace, and the Korea-U.S. alliance means an alliance that goes beyond security to include these universal values." ?
