[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] As the government unveils a blueprint to build the world's largest semiconductor production base, interest in EN Corporation is growing. The company is expected to benefit as it possesses top-level water treatment technology in the industrial water treatment market and the largest liquid waste treatment infrastructure in Korea.
According to industry sources on the 14th, EN Corporation recently secured industry-leading ultrapure water treatment technology and the largest-scale business infrastructure in Korea's industrial water treatment market through large-scale investments.
Since March, EN Corporation has consecutively acquired water treatment-related companies. It acquired 100% of the shares of Hanseong Cleantech, a semiconductor ultrapure water equipment company, and also acquired the Dangjin plant of InvioTech, the No. 1 liquid waste treatment operator in Korea.
EN Corporation has set a goal to become the No. 1 company equipped with top-level water treatment technology and the largest liquid waste treatment infrastructure in the industrial water treatment market this year. It has made large-scale investments in environmental facility installation and water treatment fields essential to advanced industries such as semiconductors, bio, display, and petrochemicals. It plans to continue investing in the second half of this year to build a differentiated platform that provides total services from water treatment supply to processing.
The domestic liquid designated waste market is estimated to be worth about 1 trillion KRW. As the proportion of advanced industries such as semiconductors, displays, and bio, which generate large amounts of liquid waste and wastewater, increases every year, the volume of wastewater is also rising.
Water treatment for advanced industries such as semiconductors, displays, and bio differs from other industries in that interconnectivity between each field is important. Ultrapure water used in semiconductor production is treated as wastewater after use. Wastewater treatment generates sludge, which is either landfilled or dried. During this process, leachate is generated, requiring further wastewater treatment. Companies capable of integrated management of water treatment, wastewater entrusted treatment, waste recycling, and air pollution prevention have an advantage.
The government announced plans to attract more than 510 trillion KRW in private investment over the next 10 years to create the world's largest semiconductor production base. It will enact the 'Semiconductor Special Act,' establish the K-Semiconductor Belt, provide strong incentives such as tax, financial, and regulatory improvements, and support semiconductor workforce development.
A company official stated, "Water treatment facilities are necessary to flawlessly perform essential tasks such as water volume supply, wastewater treatment, and power supply for semiconductor manufacturing facilities."
