Toss Hires 340 Employees in Q1, Surpasses 1,000 Staff Members

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Viva Republica, the operator of the mobile financial service 'Toss,' announced on the 13th that 340 new employees joined Toss and its six affiliates in the first quarter (January to March). Among the new hires, about 200 were development-related personnel, accounting for the largest proportion.

During the same period, more than 2,300 interviews were conducted. Through large-scale recruitment, the number of employees at Toss and its affiliates more than doubled from 438 at the end of March last year to 1,000 in just over a year. Toss expects the number of employees to increase to around 1,500 by the end of the year through aggressive hiring.

Among the job changers, 50% came from IT-related companies, the largest share, while those from the financial sector, including banks and securities firms, accounted for 19%. The remaining approximately 30% were analyzed to have moved from various industries.

They are mainly mid-level managers with sufficient practical experience at their previous jobs, with an average career length of over six years, and many applicants have accumulated more than 20 years of experience.

A Toss official explained, “As the financial business areas rapidly expand through affiliates such as securities, internet banking, and PG, many applicants were attracted by new growth opportunities and a horizontal organizational culture.”

Along with business expansion, recruitment is increasing not only in development roles but also in management infrastructure areas. Among the approximately 140 job categories being actively recruited in the second quarter, about 90 are development roles, and around 50 are infrastructure areas such as security, HR, finance, and legal.

Toss’s recruitment process is completed within a maximum of three weeks from application submission to final announcement, and considering applicants’ convenience and the COVID-19 situation, 95% of interviews are conducted as untact video interviews.
