Dongdaemun-gu to Provide 500,000 Won Employment Incentive for Unemployed Youth

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) will provide employment incentives to unemployed youth residing in Dongdaemun-gu who are having difficulties in job searching due to the deteriorating employment market caused by COVID-19.

This employment incentive was prepared as part of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and autonomous district cooperative livelihood measures for job seekers experiencing employment difficulties, such as the continuous increase in youth unemployment due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation.

The support target is youth aged 19 to 34 who are registered residents of Dongdaemun-gu, unemployed within 2 years after graduating their highest level of education, and not enrolled in employment insurance. Even those enrolled in employment insurance can apply if they work 26 hours or less per week or have short-term employment of 3 months or less. However, university (graduate) students, students on leave, unemployment benefit recipients, and participants in the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s 2020 Youth Job Search Activity Support Fund and 2021 National Employment Support System (Type 1) are excluded.

The application period is until June 18, and applications can be submitted online through the Seoul Youth Portal website.

Required documents include a resident registration certificate or abstract, employment insurance qualification history, and graduation certificate of the highest education level. Selected recipients will receive 500,000 KRW worth of Dongdaemun-gu Love Gift Certificates (Zero Pay) sequentially from June.

Detailed eligibility requirements and application methods can be found on the Dongdaemun-gu website and Seoul Youth Portal.

You Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “I hope this can bring some comfort and hope to the youth going through difficult times due to the COVID-19 disaster,” and added, “We will strive to prepare livelihood measures that prevent blind spots where support is not received, as all residents are going through a difficult time due to COVID-19.”
