Jeonnam Province and Bank of Korea Collaborate to Advance Offshore Wind Power Industry

Discussion on Development Plans at the 'Local Economy Forum'

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province and the Bank of Korea have joined forces to develop the offshore wind power industry.

On the 12th, the province announced that it held a 'Regional Economic Forum' with the Bank of Korea Gwangju-Jeonnam Headquarters to discuss ways to develop Jeonnam's offshore wind power industry.

The 'Regional Economic Forum' is held annually by the Bank of Korea Gwangju-Jeonnam Headquarters selecting various themes to revitalize the regional economy.

On this day, the forum was held online under the theme of 'Current Status and Development Plans of Jeonnam Offshore Wind Power Industry.'

Industry-academic-research related organizations including Jeonnam Province, Bank of Korea, KEPCO Power Research Institute, Jeonnam Technopark, Green Energy Research Institute, and Chonnam National University participated, conducting presentations, comprehensive discussions, and Q&A sessions.

In the keynote presentation, Jo Seok-hoon, Head of the Offshore Wind Power Industry Division of Jeonnam Province, explained the government's Green New Deal core project, the 'Shinan 8.2GW Offshore Wind Power Complex Development Plan.'

During the comprehensive discussion, experts in various fields engaged in passionate debates on development plans for Jeonnam's offshore wind power industry, including industrial ecosystem creation, technology enhancement and professional workforce training, and securing resident acceptance.

Kim Shin-nam, Director of the Energy Industry Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, "Through the offshore wind power project, we plan to attract and nurture 450 related companies and create 120,000 quality jobs, making it a leading model for future regional new industry development." He added, "We will actively reflect the development plans derived from the forum in future project implementation and devote all efforts to ensuring the successful promotion of the offshore wind power project."
