After presenting the appointment letter, President Moon encouraged him during their conversation, saying, "Since Supreme Court rulings have a profound impact on our society and future generations, the responsibility as a Supreme Court Justice will be great," and added, "With a firm belief in judicial independence, protection of fundamental rights, and safeguarding socially vulnerable groups, you will perform your role as a Supreme Court Justice excellently."
He also evaluated, "As revealed during the confirmation hearing, you are a legal professional who has lived an exemplary life throughout," and "Not only do you possess outstanding abilities, but you also have high trust within the court." In response, Justice Cheon said, "The weight of being a Supreme Court Justice feels as heavy as carrying a stone."
During the conversation, President Moon asked about the most memorable case, and Justice Cheon explained a case where he handled a first-instance criminal case with a guilty verdict and led to an acquittal through an on-site inspection at 1 a.m., the time the incident occurred. The President emphasized the importance of on-site inspections, noting that it is not easy to conduct such inspections in practice and that it changed a person's life.
