[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City recently issued an administrative order for diagnostic testing on entertainment establishments where COVID-19 cases have been occurring.


On the 12th at 1:30 PM, Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop held a briefing related to COVID-19 response and announced, “From today, an administrative order for COVID-19 diagnostic testing is issued for owners and workers of entertainment bars, karaoke bars, singing practice rooms, and owners and workers of entertainment hostess introduction businesses within the jurisdiction.”


Accordingly, those involved must undergo mandatory COVID-19 diagnostic testing at nearby public health center screening clinics or the city hall temporary screening clinic by the 16th. Testing can be done anonymously.


The city plans to take strong measures such as reporting to the police and imposing fines of up to 3 million KRW for those who do not comply with the administrative order, and in cases where confirmed cases arise from violations of the order, civil damages and claims for reimbursement will be pursued under civil law.


Earlier on the same day, regarding the death of an individual in their 80s after receiving the second Pfizer vaccination at the Gwangju Seo-gu Vaccination Center, Mayor Lee said, “We sincerely pray for the deceased’s repose and extend deep condolences to the bereaved family,” adding, “The exact cause will be announced after an in-depth epidemiological investigation on vaccine causality is conducted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.”


The mayor stated, “COVID-19 has deeply penetrated daily life to the extent that it is difficult to specify the age groups and occupations of confirmed cases, threatening the safety of the Gwangju community,” and added, “On the 15th, we will hold a COVID-19 Public-Private Joint Countermeasures Committee meeting to comprehensively gather expert opinions and decide on future response measures, including adjustments to social distancing levels.”


He continued, “An analysis of recent regional infection patterns in the Honam area shows that 56% of transmissions occur within families and 20% through contact with acquaintances,” and urged, “Please minimize removing masks during daily life, and especially maintain vigilance by wearing masks and keeping a certain distance even among family and acquaintances, strictly adhering to quarantine rules.”
