Warrant Hearing at Chuncheon District Court on the 13th
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The police have requested an arrest warrant for a former mayor of Yanggu County, Gangwon Province, who has been suspected of real estate speculation.
The Gangwon Provincial Police Agency's special investigation team dedicated to real estate speculation announced on the 12th that they have applied for an arrest warrant against Mr. A, a three-term mayor of Yanggu County, on charges of violating the Act on the Prevention of Corruption and the Establishment and Operation of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
Mr. A is suspected of purchasing land near the planned station area of the Dongseo High-Speed Railway in 2016, while serving as mayor, using insider development information, under his wife's name for about 160 million won.
The pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) for Mr. A is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. on the 13th at the Chuncheon District Court.
