[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Yang Seung-jo, Governor of Chungnam Province, will announce his candidacy for the presidential election in Sejong.
Yang's presidential campaign team announced on the 12th that he will officially declare his candidacy for the "20th Presidential Election" at the outdoor space of the Sejong City Local Autonomy Hall.
Attending the event will be Lee Si-jong, Governor of Chungbuk Province; Heo Tae-jung, Mayor of Daejeon; Lee Chun-hee, Mayor of Sejong; as well as metropolitan and local government heads from the Chungcheong region, former Senior Secretary for Civil Society Lee Kang-chul, and about 40 current members of the National Assembly.
Governor Yang stated, "Our country is currently facing three major crises: polarization, low birthrate, and aging," and expressed his intention to run for president by saying, "I will work to resolve these three crises as a decentralized president who dismantles the capital region's monopolistic structure and establishes the principles of coexistence and balance."
He also pledged, "I will be your president who creates a happy Republic of Korea, a president who works and serves for a happy Korea, so that my happiness becomes our happiness, and further, to strive to build a more harmonious and happy Korea."
Earlier, in Chungnam, local council members, regional university professors, and businesspeople have consecutively issued declarations urging Governor Yang to run.
Meanwhile, Governor Yang graduated from Sungkyunkwan University Law School and has served as a four-term member of the National Assembly, Secretary-General of the Democratic Party, and Chairman of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee, among other positions.
