Seongbuk-gu Student Kang Yeji Wins Excellence Award in 'Boy Statue - Creative Science and Arts' Category

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (District Mayor, Lee Seung-ro) announced that on the 5th, at the ‘Seoul Citizen Award’ ceremony hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Kang Ye-ji, a youth from Seongbuk-gu Youth Support Center Kkumdeulim, received the Seoul Mayor’s Award for being a role model through proper growth.

It was meaningful that out-of-school youth grew into positive and healthy adolescents through proper learning environments and experiences in various activity fields.

The ‘Seoul Citizen Award’ is given in May, Youth Month, to children and youth who serve as role models in five categories (filial piety and etiquette, volunteer cooperation, hope and sincerity, creative science and arts, global leadership) to encourage them.

Kang Ye-ji (age 14), a youth from Seongbuk-gu Youth Support Center Kkumdeulim who won the Excellence Award in the ‘Youth Award - Creative Science and Arts’ category, has been active as a member of the Dream Orchestra ‘Seongbuk’ and as a youth representative of the Seongbuk-gu Kkumdeulim Pottery Club ‘Onggijonggi’ hosted by Seongbuk-gu Office and Kkumdeulim in 2020. She has continuously participated in youth cultural and artistic activities in the local community, overcoming difficult circumstances and striving to achieve her dreams.

Also, the awardee (Kang Ye-ji, 14) said in her acceptance speech, “I was very happy to celebrate this special day more meaningfully, and it will remain a memorable moment. I am grateful to Seongbuk-gu Kkumdeulim and the Kkumdeulim teachers who supported me to receive this award.”

The award ceremony, which was held offline every year, was broadcast live via YouTube live streaming this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19, allowing real-time chat communication among citizens congratulating the awardees and youth.

Seongbuk-gu Youth Support Center Kkumdeulim, located in Dongseon-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, always keeps its doors open for out-of-school youth and offers various programs such as academic support, employment support, independence support, and health support projects.
