May 17 '49th Coming-of-Age Day' Commemoration Event... Making Fragrance with District Mayor, etc... 200,000 Won 'Coming-of-Age Start Support Fund' Also Given to Youths Coming of Age This September
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will hold various commemorative events, including making perfume together with adolescents coming of age, on May 17th to celebrate the ‘49th Coming-of-Age Day.’
‘Coming-of-Age Day’ is a legally designated commemorative day to instill pride as adults and remind them of their responsibilities as members of society. It is celebrated every year on the third Monday of May.
To this end, on the 17th at 4 p.m., the district office will invite about 30 adolescents born in 2002 from the area who are coming of age to the main conference room to motivate them to grow into healthy members of society.
The event will proceed with the coming-of-age oath by two representatives, followed by a congratulatory letter from the mayor. Afterwards, through ‘Making My One and Only Perfume in the World’ with the mayor, participants will have time to support and encourage each other on becoming adults.
In addition, the district will send congratulatory cards to about 6,000 adolescents born in 2002 in the area.
Especially, the card will include congratulatory and supportive messages for coming of age, along with an information leaflet about the ‘Coming-of-Age Start Support Fund’ provided to 19-year-old youth in the area.
The ‘Coming-of-Age Start Support Fund’ is a support fund newly implemented by the district for the first time this year. It was prepared to support the new start, new rights, and new responsibilities of youth, who have recently emerged as a socially vulnerable group, as they take their first step into society. The district plans to provide 200,000 KRW in local currency once in September to 19-year-old youth residing in Songpa-gu.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “This event was prepared to support adolescents coming of age during the difficult times caused by COVID-19,” and added, “We will continue to discover more diverse projects to help young people confidently establish themselves as members of society with dreams and hopes in Songpa.”
