[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province announced on the 11th that it will carry out maintenance of urban living area hiking trails until November.
The maintenance sections total 528 km in length, prioritizing major hiking trails such as the top 100 famous mountains' trails and Naepo Cultural Forest paths where increased usage requires maintenance.
The trail maintenance is being promoted to provide safe hiking services in response to the growing demand for forest recreation spaces.
The maintenance budget is a total of 7.1 billion KRW and will be used to enhance green functions and strengthen safety by connecting damaged and disconnected areas to build a network.
Along with trail maintenance, the province plans to deploy forest trail guides who will serve as navigators during on-site hikes to help residents enjoy safe and pleasant hiking experiences.
Lee Sang-chun, Director of the Provincial Forest Resources Division, said, “Due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, more residents are avoiding travel and outdoor activities and instead hiking on trails near their homes. Reflecting this situation, the province will regularly maintain local hiking trails so that residents can use them more easily and conveniently.”
