Which Places in Gwangyang Are Included in the 'Jeonnam Safe Travel 50 Selections'?

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do is attracting travelers' attention with its clean tourist resources such as Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest, Mangdeok Port, and Baealdo, which have been listed in the ‘Jeonnam Safe Travel 50 Selections’.

Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest, Mangdeok Port, and Baealdo were selected in February as part of the ‘Jeollanam-do Safe Travel 50 Selections’.

Additionally, they have been featured in the promotional booklet ‘I Want to Be Your Comma: Jeollanam-do Safe Travel 50 Selections,’ published by the Korea Tourism Organization Gwangju Jeonnam Branch and Jeollanam-do, maintaining tourists' interest.

Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest is a secret forest where dense primeval and artificial forests blend, equipped with various recreational facilities such as mountain huts, clay rooms, forest bathing areas, campgrounds, ecological experience centers, children's playgrounds, and forest rest areas.

The ‘Healing Forest,’ where visitors can boost their immunity through activities like wind bathing, meditation, foot baths, and aromatherapy with a forest healing instructor, and the wood culture experience center where simple DIY furniture can be made, are also gaining popularity.

The four major valleys of Baegunsan?Seongbul, Donggok, Eochi, and Geumcheon?where the millennium breeze flows, along with nine courses of the Baegunsan Dulle-gil trail, are emerging as green resting spots for weary modern people.

The mild and savory charcoal-grilled chicken, which can be enjoyed at the numerous mountain lodges at the foot of Baegunsan, is considered a must-eat dish in Gwangyang.

The Mangdeok Port and Baealdo area, recently transforming into an activity space, is also drawing tourists' footsteps.

Once the suspension-style pedestrian bridge connecting Mangdeok Port and the zip track linking Mangdeoksan Mountain to Baealdo Neighborhood Park are completed, the area centered on Baealdo is expected to be reborn as an attractive space where the mountain, port, and waterfront park are connected in a single line.

Jaecheop soup and raw jaecheop (small freshwater clams) from the Seomjin River also offer the taste of Gwangyang along with Gwangyang Bulgogi.

Park Soon-gi, head of the Tourism Division, said, “Gwangyang is gaining popularity as a hidden travel destination for modern people exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and daily fatigue.”

He added, “As we transition into summer, we hope you do not miss the safe travel in Gwangyang where you can take care of your immunity and health.”
