[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] Genetic analysis of COVID-19 confirmed cases revealed an additional 176 cases of variant viruses.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 11th at midnight that the number of infections with the three major variant viruses increased by 176, bringing the total to 808.
The cumulative status by virus type is 705 cases of the UK variant, 93 cases of the South Africa (Namagong) variant, and 10 cases of the Brazil variant.
Among the 176 new cases, 154 were infected with the UK variant and 22 with the Namagong variant. Regarding their routes of detection, 35 were imported cases and 141 were domestic cases, with domestic cases being more prevalent.
Of the 141 domestic cases, 92 were related to cluster outbreaks.
Among the imported cases, 22 were identified at quarantine stages and 13 during self-isolation.
So far, 808 confirmed cases of major variants have been identified, but epidemiologically linked cases amount to 1,089, bringing the total number of variant infections to 1,897.
In addition, aside from the three major variants, virus infections classified as 'other variants' include ▲490 cases from California, USA ▲58 cases from India ▲13 cases from New York, USA ▲9 cases from the UK and Nigeria ▲6 cases from the Philippines, totaling 576 cases.
The health authorities stated, "The variant virus analysis rate over the past week is 15.9%," and added, "We are continuously expanding analysis to strengthen surveillance of variant viruses."
