[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Jeong Jong-sun) announced on the 11th that it has promoted a sea forest creation project to prevent sea desertification over an area of 4,500㎡ at four locations within the jurisdiction (Yongsan-myeon Jaraseom, Gwansan-eup Munyeodo, Hoejin-myeon Marine Fishing Park, Somarido) to commemorate the 9th Sea Planting Day on the 10th.

May 10th every year is designated as "Sea Planting Day," a legal commemorative day to raise public awareness of the importance of the underwater ecosystem and the seriousness of its degradation, and to celebrate the creation of sea forests with nationwide interest.

About 20 local fishing cooperative members directly participated by attaching gompi (brown seaweed) seeds affixed to eco-friendly seed lines to soil bricks and throwing them into the sea, serving as an important opportunity to recognize the importance of the underwater ecosystem and join efforts to save the sea.

A county official said, "Through this project, we have widely publicized the seriousness of sea desertification and the importance of the marine ecosystem, and it has become an opportunity to maintain and preserve the clean waters of Deukryang Bay," adding, "We ask for continued interest and participation in efforts to save the sea."
