‘Only Now?’ Gimhae City Council Submits Personal Information Consent Form for Real Estate Speculation Investigation

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] The Gimhae City Council in Gyeongnam announced on the 11th that it will actively cooperate with a full investigation into real estate transactions to resolve suspicions of real estate speculation among city council members and to establish an honest council.

On the 10th, the city council submitted a 'Consent Form for Providing Personal Information' to the Gimhae City Auditor, allowing the investigation of real estate transaction details of all 23 city council members, including their spouses and immediate family members.

Similar to investigations of public officials, the council plans to verify land transactions related to five local development projects: Heungdong Urban High-tech Industrial Complex, Jinrye Public Support Private Rental, Seogimhae General Industrial Complex, Eobang District Urban Development Project, and Jangyu Residential Complex, and then report the results to the city council.

If there are any council members or family members involved in problematic cases, the council intends to refer them to the Ethics Special Committee and respond according to established principles.

Chairman Song Yoo-in stated, "As a representative body serving the citizens, city council members must have no suspicion whatsoever regarding illegal real estate speculation," adding, "The council will actively take the lead in strengthening transparency in the public sector and eradicating illegal real estate speculation."
