[Asia Economy Reporter Jumi Lee] A man in his 50s was arrested by the police for breaking and forcibly trying to open the front door of the apartment above him out of anger over noise between floors.
On the 10th, Bupyeong Police Station in Incheon announced that they had requested an arrest warrant for Mr. A (51) on charges of special property damage and special threats.
Mr. A is accused of repeatedly striking the doorknob of Mr. B's (61) front door on the 6th floor of an apartment in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, with a blunt weapon around 4:30 PM on the 8th.
It was also investigated that Mr. A inserted the blunt weapon into the gap of Mr. B's front door and attempted to forcibly open it while threatening Mr. B by saying, "I will kill you. Open the door."
The police responded to Mr. B's report that "the downstairs neighbor is trying to break the door" and arrived at the scene to apprehend Mr. A.
Mr. A, who lives in the apartment below Mr. B, is said to have had ongoing conflicts with Mr. B over noise between floors and committed the crime after drinking alcohol on the day of the incident.
Mr. A told the police, "I was angry because he wouldn't open the door, so I just wanted to scare him."
Meanwhile, incidents involving conflicts with neighbors over noise between floors have been occurring recently. In March, a man in his 50s in Gwangju was arrested on charges of threatening a neighbor with a weapon. The man was investigated for threatening the downstairs resident by saying, "Your children are too noisy. If you don't quiet down, I will kill you."
In April, a man in his 20s was sentenced to prison after self-harming and threatening an upstairs neighbor following a noise conflict between floors. The man was prosecuted for attempting to break into and threatening the upstairs neighbor with whom he had conflicts over noise in an apartment in Yangsan-si, Gyeongnam. At the time, the man reportedly drank alcohol, cut his palm with a weapon, then went to the victim's house, tried to forcibly open the door, and shouted loudly.
