[Golf Topic] 'Number 1' Johnson "Sudden Knee Injury?"... "Major Victory Campaign Red Light"

[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] ○…World No. 1 Dustin Johnson (USA, photo) has suffered a knee injury...

On the 11th (Korean time), Johnson stated, "I suddenly felt pain in my knee," and added, "After discussions with my trainer and team members, I have decided to forgo upcoming tournaments for the time being and focus on rehabilitation." This announcement came just two days before the PGA Tour AT&T Byron Nelson (total prize money $8.1 million) held at Craig Ranch Golf Club (par 72, 7,468 yards) in McKinney, Texas, USA, on the night of the 13th.

It is noteworthy that Johnson secured three wins in the 2020 season, including the 'Fall Masters' held in November 2021, and also claimed victory at the European Tour's Saudi International earlier this year. However, in his last eight tournaments, he has only finished in the 'Top 10' once, showing signs of lethargy. Experts have expressed concern, noting, "Johnson underwent left knee cartilage surgery immediately after the 2019 season ended and has already withdrawn twice from events such as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Valero Texas Open." The next stage after the AT&T Byron Nelson is the PGA Championship, making this a red flag for his pursuit of a major title.
