Secured 200 Million KRW in National Funding Selected by Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Digital New Deal Contest... Utilizing Youth Interns to Collect and Process Data Needed by Foreign Visitors... Linking Results with District Big Data Integration Platform and Providing in English
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjanghyun) has been selected for the ‘Public Data Enterprise Matching Support Project,’ a Digital New Deal initiative led by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing 200 million KRW in national funding.
Through this, the district plans to create a new ‘Foreigners’ Living Information Map.’ This decision comes from the assessment that living information for foreigners is significantly lacking compared to that for locals. Utilizing 18 youth interns, the district will collect and process data necessary for foreign visitors and publish it in English on the internet (Yongsan-gu Big Data Integrated Platform).
The collected data will cover information on local ▲accommodations (hotels, youth hostels, etc.) ▲major shops ▲attractions (museums, temples, memorial halls, parks, cultural assets, etc.) ▲electronics markets ▲traditional markets ▲other living convenience facilities (police stations, embassies, immigration offices, etc.).
Based on existing data such as business registrations and certified excellent restaurants, the district will continue on-site surveys. Using equipment capable of 360-degree filming, virtual reality (VR) data will be collected, and later a panoramic view service for major shops will also be provided.
Additionally, the district will build an Open API to enable related departments, service development groups, and general users to easily process the database (DB).
A district official explained, “Open API refers to a technology that publicly shares information held by specific individuals according to predetermined communication protocols so that third parties can utilize it,” adding, “This will allow various uses such as developing delivery apps exclusively for foreigners.”
The Public Data Enterprise Matching Support Project is a policy that accelerates public data openness by providing government budgets to related companies. The district submitted a project plan to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in March, was selected in the competition, and plans to sign agreements with related companies as early as this month.
The project period is from June to December.
Youth interns will be selected by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and assigned to companies.
The district will also create a Big Data Integrated Platform by the end of this year. This is to enhance citizen convenience and support district decision-making by discovering highly useful data and standardizing and updating it. The foreigners’ living information map will also be linked here.
Seongjanghyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Following the selection in March for the Digital-Based Aged and Risk Facility Safety Management System project, we have achieved another success in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety competition,” adding, “Once the foreigners-only living information map is created, not only foreign residents but also overseas tourists visiting Yongsan will be able to use local attractions and facilities more conveniently.” He emphasized, “The district will continue to actively pursue building a data dam that citizens need.”
