A woman in her 30s sexually assaulted in recovery room after undergoing sedative endoscopy... Police launch investigation

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] A report was received that a woman was sexually harassed by a male hospital staff member while recovering from a sedated endoscopy, prompting the police to launch an investigation.

According to the Masan Dongbu Police Station on the 10th, a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, underwent a colonoscopy under sedation at a hospital in Changwon, Gyeongnam, on the afternoon of the 3rd.

After the examination, Ms. A, wearing an examination gown that exposed part of her body, was lying in the recovery room when she claimed to have been subjected to inappropriate physical contact by a male staff member.

In a post on an online community on the 5th, Ms. A stated, "After the examination, I was lying on the recovery room bed when suddenly a finger entered my genital area," and added, "Since it was my first endoscopy, I thought it was cleaning due to some foreign substance splashing, so I stayed still."

She further said, "Mr. B massaged my abdomen and wiped my lips, engaging in unnecessary physical contact."

She expressed, "I felt it was a strange touch unrelated to treatment," and "I felt like a man took advantage of me without resistance while I was defenseless, and I felt ashamed about being victimized."

The police are reviewing the hospital’s internal closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and are investigating Mr. B, who has been identified as the suspect. The police stated, "If the complainant’s statement is confirmed, we plan to apply charges of quasi-forcible molestation."

Mr. B has been identified as a male assistant staff member in his 20s who has worked at the hospital for less than a year. He is currently denying the victim’s allegations entirely.

The hospital stated, "We will actively cooperate with the police investigation by submitting all necessary materials," and added, "If the facts are confirmed, we will take appropriate measures against the staff member involved."
