Year-round Call for Resident Participatory Budget Proposals
Discovering Practical Projects and Expanding Resident Participation
Total Budget of 2.5 Billion KRW for District-level General, Neighborhood Specialization, and Neighborhood-level General Projects
[Asia Economy, reporter Park Jongil] Dongjak District (District Mayor Lee Changwoo) is inviting proposals for the Dongjak District Resident Participatory Budget projects.
The Resident Participatory Budget System, implemented since 2012, has continuously strengthened the transparency, fairness, and democracy of the budgeting process by ensuring resident participation in every stage, from project proposal to selection and evaluation.
Last year, the district identified a total of 67 resident-proposed projects, including three district-level general projects, 12 neighborhood (Dong) specialization projects, and 52 neighborhood-level general projects, focusing on improving residents' quality of life in areas such as employment, housing, care, and education.
Neighborhood specialization projects refer to local issue projects proposed through neighborhood community meetings, based on each neighborhood's specialization strategy.
This call for proposals allocates a total of 2.5 billion KRW, consisting of 500 million KRW for district-level general projects, 1 billion KRW for neighborhood specialization projects, and 1 billion KRW for neighborhood-level general projects. These projects will be reflected in next year's district budget.
Eligible projects include those that benefit the community or a large number of people, projects essential for the neighborhood such as those related to housing, environment, welfare, and transportation, and projects aimed at improving elements that inconvenience residents. However, projects supporting specific organizations or program operations, requests for operating or maintenance costs for facilities already established or operated by the autonomous district, installation of security CCTVs, and festival-related projects are excluded from consideration.
Any Dongjak District resident may submit proposals in person or by mail to the district office's Planning and Coordination Division or to their local community center. Applications may also be submitted via the official email (seonbi208@dongjak.go.kr) or through the district's website.
Proposals received by May 14 will undergo preliminary review by the relevant departments and the Resident Participatory Budget Committee until July, based on criteria such as feasibility, budget appropriateness, and project effectiveness. Final projects will be selected through electronic voting (M-Voting) held from August 13 to August 27.
Resident proposals submitted after this period will be considered in next year's Resident Participatory Budget project call.
Kim Hyeonho, Head of the Planning and Coordination Division, stated, "We hope this call for proposals will help resolve inconveniences in residents' daily lives and lead to the discovery of various projects for balanced regional development," and encouraged active participation from interested residents.
