[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Im Jae-su) is conducting marine pollution and illegal activity surveillance through real-time monitoring of marine pollution and patrol activities in vulnerable marine areas using unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 10th, the unmanned aerial vehicle introduced and operated last year has a length of 1.44m, a wingspan of 1.80m, weighs 3.5kg, flies at speeds of 50 to 80 km/h, has a communication radius of 10 km, and can fly for up to 90 minutes (actual flight time 50 to 60 minutes), transmitting video day and night.
Mokpo Maritime Police uses the unmanned aerial vehicle to conduct smart marine pollution prevention patrols, including monitoring marine pollution and supporting containment operations within its jurisdiction.
In particular, last year, they conducted extensive aerial patrols using the unmanned aerial vehicle over island areas, which are blind spots for marine debris, to monitor the inflow status of waste, selecting islands for focused management through monitoring and carrying out marine cleanup activities.
A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “We will actively utilize unmanned aerial vehicles to establish a smart marine pollution monitoring system and take the lead in creating a safe and clean marine environment.”
