[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that it will hold a public contest for resident participation budget proposal projects to be reflected in next year's budget and openly recruit committee members to revitalize the resident participation budget.

First, the resident participation budget project contest promoted by the county this year is worth a total of 1.6 billion KRW, divided into three categories: ▲resident-led contest projects 500 million KRW ▲youth-led participation projects 500 million KRW ▲region-led autonomous projects 600 million KRW, and will be held until June 24. Any resident of Geochang-gun can participate in the proposal.

The resident-led proposal projects are for the benefit of all residents closely related to residents' lives, and the youth-led proposal projects target projects for Geochang-gun youth such as jobs, culture and arts, and welfare. The project scale is up to 100 million KRW for general projects and up to 30 million KRW for event-type projects.

In addition, the region-led autonomous projects are given a 50 million KRW ceiling per eup/myeon to encourage active participation, and proposals are made through eup/myeon resident autonomy councils and regional meetings to discover various projects reflecting regional characteristics.

Projects proposed through this contest will be finally selected after review by the relevant departments, review by the resident participation budget subcommittee, online preference surveys, and deliberation by the resident participation budget committee. After being reflected in the initial 2022 budget plan and finalized through the county council's budget review and resolution in December this year, they will be implemented.

Along with this, Geochang-gun will additionally publicly recruit 15 members of the resident participation budget committee to participate in the operation of the resident participation budget system until the 31st.

Applicants must be at least 19 years old as of the announcement date and either registered residents of the county or working at institutions or businesses located in the county. Recruitment is divided into 6 youths, 2 socially disadvantaged persons, and 7 general members to allow participation from various sectors and age groups in the committee.

Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, said, "We hope for active participation and interest from residents in this proposal project contest and the open recruitment of resident participation budget committee members so that various projects desired and needed by residents can be reflected in the budget."
