[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] A total of 17 people have been confirmed positive in a COVID-19 cluster infection at an elementary school in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.


According to Seoul City and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on the 10th, one school official was first confirmed positive on the 5th, followed by 10 more cases by the 8th, and 6 additional positive cases on the 9th.


Among the 17 cumulative confirmed cases so far, 8 are students, 4 are staff members, and 5 are their family members. The school has suspended in-person classes and will conduct online classes until the 14th.


The city conducted tests on all staff and students. So far, a total of 687 people related to the school have been tested, and about 150 test results are still pending.


On the same day, 4 confirmed cases occurred due to in-school transmission at a foreign school in Seocho-gu. After the first confirmed case on the 1st, 3 additional positive cases were identified during contact tracing.


During the weekend, 54 new confirmed cases (43 students and 11 staff) were added in schools across Seoul. Since the start of the school year in March this year, a total of 958 cases have been confirmed to date.
