[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced on the 10th that Baekryeonsan Heojun Pharmacy, a ‘Our Neighborhood Sharing Store’ in Namgajwa 1-dong, recently donated pharmaceutical products worth approximately 8 million KRW to children from low-income families, people with disabilities, and the elderly.
A ‘Sharing Store’ refers to businesses such as restaurants, pharmacies, and hair salons that regularly provide free coupons or goods to help neighbors in need and practice sharing.
Currently, the Namgajwa 1-dong Community Service Center has agreements with 16 stores inside and outside the area.
Baekryeonsan Heojun Pharmacy (196 Eungam-ro) has been participating as a Sharing Store since 2017 and has consistently made donations, but the sharing carried out this year in celebration of Family Month was especially meaningful.
The pharmacy’s representative, Pharmacist Jung Yoon-seok, made this donation following the wishes of his daughter, Jung Hyo-joo, a 4th grader at Yonsei Rehabilitation School.
Pharmacist Jung said, “I started donating when I had my daughter, and this year I feel even more rewarded because I was able to share according to my daughter’s wishes.”
He also said, “I hope this can be of some help to those in need of medicines, and that children and people with disabilities will live together in a world where they are not discriminated against but understand each other.”
The donation ceremony held recently in front of the Namgajwa 1-dong Community Service Center was made more meaningful by the presence of Pharmacist Jung and his wife along with Hyo-joo.
The donated pharmaceutical products include children’s multivitamins, emergency kits, pain relief patches, disinfectants, and more, and will be delivered to about 170 households through the Namgajwa 1-dong Community Service Center, Seodaemun Deaf Welfare Center, and Seodaemun Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities.
Jung Jong-mi, head of Namgajwa 1-dong, said, “I thank the pharmacist and his family for participating in donations during these difficult times of COVID-19, and we will work harder to revitalize a sustainable sharing community within the local society by expanding Sharing Stores.”
