[Asia Economy Reporter Joesulgina] SK Telecom announced on the 10th that it has signed a business agreement with the National Theater of Korea and Content Wave to cooperate in revitalizing traditional performances and securing 5G content.

SK Telecom plans to produce various traditional performances planned by the National Theater as digital video content using advanced ICT technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence (AI), and offer them for free through the online video service (OTT) platform 'Wavve' and SK Broadband's mobile service 'Mobile Btv.'

The digital videos presented by the three companies will feature advanced IT technologies including ▲ multi-view and multi-audio that allow viewers to select specific instrument sounds or performers ▲ multi-angle viewing from various perspectives ▲ commentary videos and performer interviews.

To this end, SK Telecom plans to install 14 cameras and 40 microphones at the performance site to vividly capture at least five different angles as well as the performers' facial expressions and breathing sounds. Additionally, features such as split screens and 4x zoom will be provided to allow viewers to see scenes that were previously easy to miss.

Lee Jaegwang, Head of SK Telecom's Media Business Support Group, said, "Through this cooperation, we hope to revitalize traditional performances that have suffered due to COVID-19 and provide customers with a new enjoyment of traditional performances based on 5G."

Kim Cheolho, Director of the National Theater of Korea, said, "We expect that high-quality live performances can be conveniently enjoyed by anyone through familiar platforms without spatial or temporal constraints," adding, "This is even more meaningful as it represents a gathering of public art institutions and private companies to expand the base of traditional arts beyond a simple business cooperation."

Lee Taehyun, CEO of Content Wave, said, "We will support more people to conveniently enjoy cultural performances through the meeting of traditional performances and Wavve."
