10% discount when purchasing with voucher points, overlapping discounts available with partner telecom companies
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Emart24 announced on the 10th that it will participate in the 'Hope Meal Voucher Support' project conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.
The Hope Meal Voucher Support project is a program by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education that provides 100,000 points (equivalent to 100,000 KRW in cash) via Zero Pay to students attending remote classes, allowing them to purchase designated food-related products at convenience stores to support students at risk of missing meals.
The designated products include 10 categories such as lunch boxes, seasonal fruits, white milk, soy milk, vegetable sandwiches, fruit and vegetable juices, salads, spoonable yogurt, smoked eggs, and gimbap (excluding triangular gimbap). Instant foods, caffeinated beverages, and carbonated drinks cannot be purchased with the voucher. The lunch boxes must comply with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education’s school meal basic policy, reflecting sodium reduction per meal with sodium content below 1067mg, calories below 990kcal, and protein above 11.7g. This is based on the review results of the School Meal Advisory Committee composed of nutrition experts including the Korean Society of Community Nutrition, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, the Food Safety Information Center, and professors of food and nutrition.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans the usage period for the Hope Meal Voucher from 11 a.m. on May 20 to July 16. Points not used during this period will automatically expire afterward. Zero Pay will notify users of the expiration date via text message to prevent loss of points due to non-use.
Emart24 stated that from 11 a.m. on the 20th, the start date of voucher usage, the system has been established to accept Hope Meal Vouchers at all stores located in Seoul. When purchasing designated products at Emart24 with the Hope Meal Voucher, customers can enjoy a 10% discount, and overlapping discounts with partner telecom companies (KT Membership) are also available.
Yoo Chang-sik, head of Emart24’s Sales Marketing Team, said, "We are pleased to participate in the 'Hope Meal Voucher Support' project conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education," adding, "We will promote that the Hope Meal Voucher can be used at Emart24 and prepare promotional materials to easily check the available products so that voucher users can purchase products more conveniently and economically."
Meanwhile, the Hope Meal Voucher support excludes students attending elementary grades 1-2, high school grade 3, special schools, small schools who attend school daily, as well as those receiving daily meals through care services, flexible Hope Meal targets, and low-income Dream Tree Card recipients. The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education estimates the number of eligible recipients to be approximately 560,000.
To use the voucher, download the 'Zero Pay' application from Google Play Store or other platforms, verify identity, register the PIN number received via text message, and use the generated voucher points.
Students under 14 years old cannot receive the voucher on their own phones and must use it together with their parents. High school students in grades 1-2 can receive the voucher directly if they have a phone registered in their name. Parents must apply for the voucher and agree to the collection of personal information for support eligibility.
The Hope Meal Voucher Support project is funded by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Seoul City, and autonomous districts in a 5:3:2 ratio. The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education expects the total budget to be approximately 56 billion KRW.
