[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] When an SUV vehicle struck a person at a gas station in downtown Seoul, citizens joined forces to carry out a rescue.

According to the police and fire authorities on the 9th, at around 12:40 PM that day, an accident occurred at a gas station in Daerim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, where a Carnival vehicle hit a female gas station employee in her 40s while moving after refueling.

Despite the employee being trapped under the vehicle, the driver continued to move the car, causing the female employee to be dragged about 5 meters while caught between the front and rear wheels of the vehicle.

Citizens who witnessed the accident shouted for the car to stop and rushed to the scene to help. Fifteen people, including gas station employees and customers, worked together to lift the vehicle and pull out the trapped female employee, handing her over to the arriving 119 emergency medical team. The female employee was transported to the hospital without serious injuries.

The police have booked the Carnival driver, a man in his 20s, on charges of injury under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling. They are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident through CCTV footage from the scene. It has been reported that the man was not under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, a gas station official said, "Fortunately, passing citizens quickly helped, allowing us to promptly rescue the female employee."
