Gwangjin Cultural Foundation Launches '2021 Healing Project' to Overcome COVID-19 Depression... 'Morning Commute Performance' at Crosswalks Until 23rd... 'Neighborhood Walk' by Local Artists Runs Until June 5
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 7th, as the pedestrian signal turned green at the crosswalk in front of Gangbyeon Station in Gwangjin-gu, a unique performance accompanied by lively music took place. For about 30 seconds while the pedestrian signal was on, Gwangjin-gu characters Gwang-i and Jin-i, along with dancers, appeared on the road, danced, and then disappeared.
This performance was a "Commute Performance" prepared by Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) and the Gwangjin Cultural Foundation for residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. It is a guerrilla performance held during the pedestrian signal at the crosswalk.
The performances will be held until the 21st of this month during the morning commute hours from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at busy intersections such as Konkuk University Station intersection, Gangbyeon Station, and Jayang intersection. B-boy group "MB Crew" and dance team "Dandam" will participate to energize the residents.
In addition, the Gwangjin Cultural Foundation is promoting the "2021 Healing Project" to help residents overcome COVID-19 depression, including a "Drive-in Cinema" enjoyed from cars and "A Walk Around the Neighborhood" visiting with local artists of Gwangjin-gu.
The "Drive-in Cinema" will be held on the 13th at the outdoor parking lot of the Children's Hall for pre-registered participants, screening the movie "Minari," which has recently attracted attention with actress Youn Yuh-jung winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Also, from the 28th of this month to June 5th, a 9-day event called "A Walk Around the Neighborhood" will take place, where local artists from Gwangjin-gu visit various neighborhoods to perform.
Details of the performances and locations will be announced at 10 a.m. on the day via the Gwangjin Cultural Foundation's Instagram, and the performances will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This event will feature 21 teams of "Gwangjin-gu Good Artists" recruited earlier this year, presenting diverse stages.
The "2021 Healing Project" is free for all residents to attend and will be conducted in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines such as social distancing, health questionnaires, and temperature checks.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "We have prepared performances close to daily life for residents physically and mentally exhausted by COVID-19," and added, "We hope everyone enjoys cultural activities that they have missed and stays strong until the day COVID-19 ends."
