[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Among domestic COVID-19 vaccine recipients, 523 cases of adverse reactions have been reported. Although causality with vaccination has not been confirmed, 3 death reports have also been received.

On the 8th, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team announced that as of midnight, 3 death reports were included among the 523 adverse reaction reports received. Among them, one person had received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and the other two had received the Pfizer vaccine.

Two additional suspected cases of anaphylaxis, a severe systemic allergic reaction, were reported, all of whom had received the Pfizer vaccine. Health authorities will evaluate the causality with vaccination later.

There were 20 major adverse reaction cases, including special interest adverse reactions, ICU admissions, and permanent disabilities. Among these, 8 cases involved AstraZeneca vaccine recipients, and 12 involved Pfizer vaccine recipients.

The remaining 498 cases were mild symptoms commonly occurring after vaccination, such as redness at the injection site, pain, swelling, muscle pain, headache, fever, and chills.

Since domestic vaccinations began on February 26, a total of 19,394 suspected adverse reaction reports have been accumulated. This accounts for about 0.47% of the 4,136,581 people who have received the first and second doses domestically.

Among the adverse reaction reports, 83.7% (16,238 cases) were related to the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 16.3% (3,156 cases) were related to the Pfizer vaccine.

Among the adverse reactions reported domestically so far, there have been a total of 95 death cases (51 AstraZeneca, 44 Pfizer). These are cases reported as deaths at the time of adverse reaction reporting, excluding cases initially reported as mild but later resulting in death.

There have been a cumulative 187 suspected anaphylaxis cases (149 AstraZeneca, 38 Pfizer).

Of all adverse reaction reports, 96.4%, or 18,689 cases, were mild symptoms commonly occurring after vaccination, such as muscle pain, headache, fever, and nausea.

Meanwhile, the Vaccination Damage Investigation Committee held a total of 10 meetings by the 30th of last month to review 124 reported cases, including 67 deaths and 57 severe cases. Among the 67 death cases, causality with vaccination was not recognized in 65 cases, and the remaining 2 cases are pending judgment.

On the 26th of last month, the Vaccination Damage Compensation Expert Committee held its first meeting to review the causality and compensation eligibility between reported adverse reaction cases and vaccination. Out of 9 cases reviewed, 4 were recognized and 5 were dismissed. Among the 4 cases recognized for causality and compensation, 3 involved AstraZeneca vaccine recipients and 1 involved a Pfizer vaccine recipient.
