[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City has been finally selected as a pilot city for the Ministry of Environment’s public contest project, “IoT-based Real-time Noise Measurement Network Construction Project.”
According to the city on the 8th, this project is being promoted to introduce IoT-based noise measurement equipment, expand the number of real-time automatic measurement points, and establish a scientific urban noise management foundation.
Currently, Daejeon operates 45 national measurement network points and 35 local government measurement network points as manual measurement networks.
However, the manual noise measurement networks have only conducted 5-minute measurements once a day, which limits accurately grasping the noise levels in the area due to the nature of noise that occurs and disappears instantaneously.
On the other hand, based on the pilot project, if the manual measurement networks in the region are converted to IoT-based real-time automatic noise measurement devices, the city expects this to complement the existing limitations, manage local noise, and provide an opportunity to prevent noise, which is classified as an environmental harmful factor, in advance.
Lee Yoon-gu, Director of the Climate and Environment Policy Division of the city, said, “Through the pilot project, we will establish an urban noise management foundation and create an environment where citizens do not suffer from noise.”
