[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Webzen announced on the 7th that it recorded sales of 78 billion KRW and operating profit of 37.3 billion KRW in the first quarter.
Sales increased by 127.1% and operating profit by 290.6% compared to the previous year. Compared to the previous quarter, they decreased by 15.7% and 3.7%, respectively.
The mobile games released last year, 'MU Archangel' and 'R2M', led the performance by maintaining top rankings in the Google Play Store sales charts.
Webzen plans to focus on major updates for these two games for the time being while seeking overseas expansion.
They are also preparing to release a new game using the 'MU' intellectual property (IP) domestically in the second half of this year.
In addition, Webzen is developing more than five new titles at several game development subsidiaries such as 'Webzen Blue Lock' and 'Webzen Black Engine'.
Webzen intends to expand its development scope beyond its main genre of massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) to include casual and sports games.
Webzen is preparing to launch the re-released version of the PC online game 'S.U.N', called 'S.U.N. Classic'.
Kim Taeyoung, CEO of Webzen, said, "Due to the impact of COVID-19, the development and release schedules of new games were inevitably delayed, but we are focusing on enhancing game quality and reviewing business priorities to adjust development schedules accordingly. We expect to introduce new titles to the market starting in the second half of this year."
